Dr. Sumi Ratnasingam is a clinical haematologist at The Alfred Hospital, specialising in lymphoma and CAR-T cell therapy. She is committed to advancing innovative treatments and improving outcomes for patients with blood cancers through both clinical practice and research.
Sumi completed a two-year lymphoma fellowship at Monash Health and subsequently worked as an Honorary Haematologist at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, focusing on aggressive lymphoma and contributing to some of Australia’s earliest CAR-T cell clinical trials. Sumi has worked over a decade at University Hospital Geelong, where she provided comprehensive haematology care to patients across the Barwon region and Bellarine Peninsula. This experience strengthened her commitment to ensuring regional patients have equitable access to world-class therapies.
In addition to her clinical expertise, Sumi has contributed to national guidelines on the management of lymphoma and published in peer-reviewed journals. She is actively involved in clinical trials in lymphoma and is passionate about education, regularly teaching medical students and registrars.
Sumi also serves in leadership roles with the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ) as Victorian Councillor, and with the Australasian Leukaemia & Lymphoma Group (ALLG) as Medical Secretary of the Lymphoma Working Party.
Despite her subspecialty focus on lymphoma, Sumi treats all haematological malignancies including myeloid disorders, myeloma and bone marrow failure syndromes. She also provides a consultative service in non-malignant haematology such as iron deficiency, cytopenia, venous thromboembolism and paraproteinaemia.
